Last turning point to adapt to the new standards on Environmental Management System (EMS) ISO 14001:2015. According to certifiers' data, only a small number of companies have completed this important transition, while many companies seems to have not yet paid enough attention to the transition.
It is important to remember that it is a substantial change, not comparable with the minor aspects introduced with the 2004 version. It is therefore not neglegible the risk for the companies not to successfully complete the transition within the leatest deadline of September 15th, 2018.
Meanwhile, two important novelties will be discussed today in Milan within the UNI National mirror group on EMS (GL1) coordinated by Daniele Pernigotti.
The first is the publication of the new ISO official procedure on the interpretation of ISO 14001. The new version of the procedure, followed for Italy by Fausto Sini, reiterates the role of UNI, as the only body deputed to interpret the standards at the Italian level, through the GL1, and of ISO to harmonise the interpretation at world level. We remind that no other body at national level has the authority to officially interpret the requirements of ISO 14001.
GL1 will also discuss the translation of ISO 14001, contained in the Regulation 1505 of August 27th 2017, which amended the ISO 14001 text of 2004 with a new translation of the new ISO 14001 for the companies registered EMAS (that are also compelled to adapt their EMS to the requirements of the new standard). The problem, as highlighted in the comparative document developed by Emilia Catto, that will be discussed today in the GL1, is that the translation contains many substantial errors and does not coincide with the Italian version of ISO 14001.
All this confirms the non-trivial passage of transition to be completed by next year.
