The Netherlands launches a progressive Carbon Tax and bans motor cars by 2030.<\/p>\n

Below are the main actions of the Dutch government’s agreement launched yesterday:<\/p>\n

– introduction of a CO2 tax on electricity at 18 euro per ton in 2020 that should rise to 43 euro by 2030.<\/p>\n

– all cars should be emissions free by 2030<\/p>\n

– 49% CO2 reduction by 2030 (translates to 56 million tonnes according to accord)<\/p>\n

– 18 out of 56 million tonnes co2 reduction should come from carbon capture, utilisation and storage<\/p>\n

– 12 out of 56 million tonnes should come from the closure of coal power plants by 2030 (only 1 will be closed during the new government coalition period to 2021)<\/p>\n

– 7 out of 56 million tonnes should come from existing and new building efficiency improvements<\/p>\n

– 4 out of 56 million tonnes should come from offshore wind<\/p>\n
