{"id":9060,"date":"2019-05-23T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-05-23T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.aequilibria.com\/2019\/05\/23\/iea-wake-up-call-on-energy\/"},"modified":"2019-05-23T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2019-05-23T00:00:00","slug":"iea-wake-up-call-on-energy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.aequilibria.com\/en\/2019\/05\/23\/iea-wake-up-call-on-energy\/","title":{"rendered":"IEA wake-up call on energy!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Global energy investment stabilised in 2018, ending three consecutive years of decline, as capital spending on oil, gas and coal supply bounced back while investment stalled for energy efficiency and renewables, according to the <em><strong>International Energy Agency\u2019s (IEA)<\/strong><\/em> latest annual review.<br \/>\nThe findings of the <em><strong>World Energy Investment<\/strong><\/em> 2019 report signal a growing mismatch between current trends and the paths to meeting the Paris Agreement and other sustainable development goals.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, there are still few signs of improvements in energy efficiency and energy production from renewable sources.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u201cEnergy investments now face unprecedented uncertainties, with shifts in markets, policies and technologies,\u201d <\/em>said Dr Fatih Birol, the IEA\u2019s Executive Director.\u00a0<em> &#8220;But the bottom line is that the world is not investing enough in traditional elements of supply to maintain today\u2019s consumption patterns, nor is it investing enough in cleaner energy technologies to change course. Whichever way you look, we are storing up risks for the future.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">That is a real issue of concern, considering what is happing on the renewables front. New net capacity from solar PV, wind, hydro, bioenergy, and other renewable power sources increased by about 180 GW in 2018, the same as the previous year.
