In the past few weeks, unprecedented records have been reached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Particularly, on <strong>Friday, 18<sup>th<\/sup> March<\/strong>, the numbers in various weather stations soared. In eastern Antarctica, temperatures of <strong>40\u00baC above average<\/strong> were reached, and the Concordia meteorological station (at 3.234 meters above sea level) recorded its highest temperature ever of <strong>11,5\u00baC<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A so-called &#8220;atmospheric river&#8221; directed a mass of warm, humid air toward the South Pole, which led to rains on the Antarctic coast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although caused by different meteorological patterns, certain parts of the Arctic \u2013 at the other end of the planet \u2013 have reached unprecedented levels, with temperatures of <strong>30\u00baC above monthly average<\/strong> and extreme heat records in <strong>Norway and Greenland<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The causes are unclear yet, and numerous studies will need to be completed to compare the different scenarios.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, scientists are certain of the <strong>exceptional nature <\/strong>of these occurrences.
