The Netherlands launches the Carbon Tax

The Netherlands launches a progressive Carbon Tax and bans motor cars by 2030. Below are the main actions of the Dutch government's agreement launched yesterday: - introduction of a CO2 tax on electricity at 18 euro per ton in 2020 that should rise to 43 euro by 2030. - all cars should be emissions free by 2030 - 49% CO2 reduction by 2030 (translates to 56 million tonnes according to accord) - 18 out of 56 million tonnes co2 reduction should come from carbon capture, utilisation and storage - 12 out of 56 million tonnes should come from the closure of coal power plants by 2030 (only 1 will be closed during the new government coalition period to 2021) - 7 out of 56 million tonnes should come from existing and new building efficiency improvements - 4 out of 56 million tonnes should come from offshore wind Click here to see the Government accord.
