After a 10-year journey, ISO has finally come to publish its own standard on the Carbon Footprint of Product, ISO 14067.
The first troubled attempt had been started back in 2008 and had to fall back towards the publication of a Technical Specification (TS), due to the evident lack of sufficient international consensus in favour of a true standard, especially by the developing countries.
Having agreed in August 2015 to lead a new working group aimed at making the TS evolve into an ISO standard has been a major challenge, but the masterful support of the BSI Secretariat of Ben Hedley, (UK), the constant collaboration of the Co-convenor Harmke Himmink, South Africa, and the great participation of a fantastic working group has permitted to achieve the result perfectly within the time frame set for the project and with the clear support of 85% of the voting countries.
The publication of the standard brings with it, together with the evident satisfaction for the result achieved, a mixture of tiredness for the great work and commitment dedicated to the project and nostalgia for having to close a working group composed of many people of undisputed experience and human depth.
Now begins the promotion phase for the diffusion of a standard that I am convinced will win a great market success to help fight an increasingly worrying climate warming.
I will have the pleasure to present the contents of the new ISO 14067 on September 12th in Cambodia and then in our Tea Corner on September 26th and finally in our first training course scheduled for October 2nd.
