The world of standardization doesn’t go on holiday and it keeps producing exciting news.
It’s been recently approved by ISO and IEC the final version (FDIS) of ISO 17029, important standard that finally brings order in the verification and validation activities. The new document, which publication is expected to be in a couple of months, introduces the general requirements about the accreditation activities in these sectors without going into the detailed aspects about the different schemes.
Detailed aspects that instead are described about environmental validation and verification within the ISO 14065 under revision, and that have to be used together with ISO 17029. It should be recalled, in fact, that compared to the first version of this document, strictly dedicated to the GHG verification and validation, the new standard extended its scope to all the environmental information and this should bring some order in a sector that has always moved until now in a quite disorganized way. Think for example about the EPD activities that require a little justifiable annual surveillance. We inform you that the next ISO/TC 207/SC7/WG6 meeting will be held at the beginning of October at Accredia headquarters in Rome.
Completely new is instead what it’s been discussed 10 days ago at Berkeley University, where a new Working Group (WG13) of SC7 is born. The WG13 meeting of Berkeley, which our Daniele Pernigotti has attended, marks the first step for the development of a new standard about the calculation of the climate footprint, based on radiative forcing. It should be noted that the government of California itself has already expressed a keen interest on this topic, and it has already arranged drafts of possible new national standards.
