CLIMATE CHANGE AND WORLD CONFLICTS: A CRITICAL LINING
An interesting analysis of the Center for Climate & Security, published on “Scientific American” last week, highlights one of the least-debated consequences of climate change, but with the greatest potential for man-global security.
The study identifies 12 epicentres in the world where the impacts of climate change can trigger conflicts. This is mainly related to resource competition that has become more rare but, according to experts, it is also possible to increase the likelihood of nuclear conflicts, pandemics and tensions in the Arctic.
According to the founder of the Center, Francesco Femia, every epicenter can cause serious problems, but in their globality it is likely that they can undermine the international order.
The epicentres are described in an animation of the “Center for Climate & Security”, reported in this article.
