Eighth historical minimum for the Arctic ices
[vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” overlay_strength=”0.3″][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ width=”1/1″ tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default”][vc_column_text]The National Snow & Ice Data Center (NSIDC) reiterates it in the premise of its announcement: changing wind or a late warm season are still possible (events that already occurred in 2005 and 2010) to vary the minimum ice extension at the end of the Arctic summer. For this reason, official data will only be communicated in October.
The 13th September result at the moment to have recorded the seasonal minimum extension, with a reduction of 4.64 million km2, the eighth lowest in the 38-year satellite record of Arctic ice extension.
It should also be noted that the overall rate of ice loss this summer was slowed by a persistent pattern of low sea level pressure, focused over the central Arctic Ocean.
