Time to stop the Green Deal? A huge mistake

We have always been convinced that to look at climate change through the lenses of political parties is deeply wrong since this fight requires the involvement of all the people of this planet and cannot have political colors or preferences.

We believed in this approach also in the past, when in Italy, a great public space has been given to negationism and to visions that could be defined as reactionary. We are firmly convinced of the importance, even more urgently today, to stay steady and consistent with this core belief.

This does not exempt us to strongly criticize political proposals that are trying to make the clock of history spinning backwards.
It is the case of the request of the Italian political party Fratelli d’Italia , as reported by greenreport.it, to frozen the Green Deal implementation until the end of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Coronavirus hit hard the complex system of our society, urging reflections in each one of us on what we were and on how we want to restart when this crisis will be over.

There is no doubt that crises represent as well the opportunity to improve the previous situation.

The support to the Green Deal is now more important than ever since it is a unique opportunity to inject money into the system towards low-carbon development.

We know that the time to wait for the climate shift is now over and not to take advantage of this crisis to realize the energy transition would be criminal. Instead, the wish is that one day in the near future, we could look back and found out that the global epidemic was useful to give us that push towards the change we did not dare to make.
